Woodruff's natural environment gives you nearly unlimited opportunities for adventure. The Woodruff Adventure Zone is specifically designed for older Scouts who want a challenging, high adventure experience.

Please note, Whitewater Challenge and Woodruff Xtreme programs are designed for older Scouts (either 14 and older, or who have graduated 8th grade). Troop Whitewater and the Horsemanship Merit Badge program are available to all Scouts.

Whitewater Challenge - off camp

Whitewater Challenge is for older Scouts who desire a lot of additional river experiences in an independent program. Activities for this week-long adventure may include rafting, kayaking and canoeing on rivers in Georgia, Tennessee and North Carolina. Activities will include kayak work, whitewater rafting, capsizing, stroke and paddle work, reading rivers, canoe handling skills and paddle skills – such as side slips, eddy turns and peel outs. Additional fees are associated with this program.

Woodruff Xtreme - off camp

The Woodruff Xtreme program is for older Scouts who want additional outdoor challenges, both physically and mentally. Each year we vary this program a bit, activities for this week-long adventure may include: rafting both the Nantahala and Ocoee rivers, backpacking, horseback riding, climbing, rappelling, ropes work, canoeing, mountain biking. Additional fees are associated with this program.

Horsemanship Merit Badge - on/off camp

This two-day Merit Badge is conducted both at camp, and at the Ocoee Base Camp. The Horsemanship Merit Badge can be included as the one offsite activity each Scout has included in his camp fee.

Troop Whitewater - off camp

Imagine rafting one of the two best whitewater rivers in the country.  Through our Troop Whitewater Program every Scout that attends Woodruff gets one of these whitewater adventures included in their fee.  Choose either the Nantahala River in North Carolina or the Ocoee River in Tennessee and enjoy an afternoon of challenge and fun!  Click here for more information.

Laurel Mountain Heritage - on camp

The Laurel Mountain Program started in 2016. It is conducted during an extended class covering morning periods #2 & #4 at our Davis Inn Outpost. Class will meet at Donnell Nature Lodge and walk out to Davis. Scouts will work on the Woodworking and Metalworking Merit Badges as well as the Paul Bunyan Award. Additional activities are also offered.
